The Integrated Course in Clinical Pathology I and Medical Technical Sciences is the first course of the I year of the CDS characterizing the profession of Biomedical Laboratory Technician. The students, after having followed the lessons common to all the Health Professions Study Courses, in this integrated course will have their first approach to Laboratory Medicine and its fundamental bases that characterize it, in order to have the knowledge that will allow them to understand the subjects covered in the subsequent years of the course.
Acquire basic knowledge of analysis laboratories, organization and knowledge of the specificities in the various laboratory branches; acquire basic knowledge of blood composition (water, metabolites, salts, proteins) and the morphological and functional characteristics of the corpuscular elements of the blood. Know the function of the bone marrow and the processes of cellular maturation, of the totipotent and committed stem cell. Know the fundamental cellular lineages from which the corpuscular elements of the blood derive; acquire the techniques for performing and reporting the blood count and the search for pathological Hb variants; acquire skills on primary and secondary hemostasis, coagulation factors, related pathologies and laboratory tests associated with the evaluation of hemostasis; acquire the quality bases and verify the reliability of laboratory results; know the meaning of diagnostic sensitivity and specificity, methodological sensitivity and specificity, ROC curve, positive and negative predictive values; calibrations and quality controls; spectrophotometry and colorimetric reactions; enzymatic reactions, potentiometry, turbidimetry and nephelometry, laboratory errors and phases of the analytical process; urine tests and health legislation; cardiac markers, acid-base balance, blood gas analysis, immunosuppressive drugs and toxicological tests in urgency/emergency. Methods for determining the main parameters measured in clinical chemistry, quality and interpretation of clinical data; interferences.

Have passed the preparatory exams as required by the Teaching Regulations.
Frontal lessons with the maximum possible teacher-student interactivity.
Students with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

Verification of the skills acquired with an oral exam, divided in two session, the first about theoretical subjects, the second about more practical subjects.
In case of emergency, when possible and according to the university indications, the activities will be carried out online.
During the exam, the rules regarding the assessment method of DSA certified students or students with other educational needs indicated by the university will be respected. (e.g.: additional time in the case of written exams, use of concept maps to be viewed for approval by the teachers at least one week before the exam date).
Students must demonstrate that they have acquired the skills related to all the courses of the Integrated Course.
If the candidate has not achieved the minimum objectives, the exam will not be deemed passed
