AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main objective of the course is to enable future teachers of nursery school to understand that health education is a primary educational need and must be included among the educational activities carried out in infant and nursery schools. Further aims are to foster an awareness of the importance of the prevention of both infectious diseases and chronic-degenerative illnesses and to transmit the basic concepts of health at school. At the end of the course, students must possess adequate knowledge of the principal concepts of health promotion and the prevention of infectious diseases, particularly those of greatest relevance to the first years of life. They must therefore show that they have understood that prevention is fundamental to safeguarding the health of both the individual and the community. Moreover, they must be able to apply the knowledge that they have acquired and must have the skills required in order to design and construct educational intervention for health promotion or disease prevention in the infant school or nursery school.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student should: have knowledge of the main concepts related to health promotion and the prevention of both communicable and non-communicable diseases; demonstrate an understanding of the importance of prevention for safeguarding the health of individuals and the community; be familiar with the objectives of the National Prevention Plan and be able to design a health education intervention tailored to early childhood services.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures (frontal lessons) with active student participation.

Examples of designing health promotion and prevention educational pathways applied to the context of children's care services.

TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD

LESSONS

LESSONS START

First week of March 2026.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Obligatory written examination consisting of 30 “closed-answer” questions with only one correct answer (one point for each correct answer) and of one “open” question. The open question will evaluate the student's level of detailed knowledge and use of appropriate language. The “open” question will be evaluated in a range between 0 (insufficient) and 3 (excellent).

Oral examination on request by the student, in order to improve the score obtained in the written examination.

For students with disabilities or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD).

Students with disabilities or SLD are reminded that, in order to request exam accommodations, they must first upload their certification on the University website at servizionline.unige.it under the “Students” section. The documentation will be reviewed by the University’s Inclusion Services Sector for students with disabilities and SLD (https://rubrica.unige.it/strutture/struttura/100111).

Subsequently, well in advance (at least 10 days) before the exam date, an email must be sent to the professor, copying both the coordinator for students with disabilities and SLD (laura.traverso@unige.it) and the Inclusion Services Sector using one of the following addresses: disabili@unige.it; dsa@unige.it; inclusione.studenti@info.unige.it. The email should specify:

The course name

The exam date

The student’s last name, first name, and student ID number

The compensatory tools and dispensatory measures deemed functional and requested.

The coordinator (Prof. Laura Traverso) will confirm to the instructor that the applicant is entitled to request exam accommodations and that such accommodations must be agreed upon with the professor. The professor will respond to communicate whether the requested accommodations can be granted.

Requests must be sent at least 10 days before the exam date to allow the professor to evaluate them. In particular, if conceptual maps are to be used during the exam (which must be much more concise than those used for study), failure to submit them within the required timeframe will not allow sufficient technical time to make any modifications that the professor might request.

For further information regarding the request for services and accommodations, please consult the document: Guidelines for the request of services, compensatory tools and/or dispensatory measures, and specific aids.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written format has been adopted in order to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the entire course is assessed in an objective manner. This modality is deemed to be able to correctly evaluate the achievement of both the general and specific training objectives. In the oral examination, the student's level of knowledge, quality of exposition and ability to use appropriate vocabulary will be assessed.
