OVERVIEW

The course focuses on soft skills that enhance and support the technical expertise required in engineering professions.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to develop in students the basic skills related to interpersonal communication at work, teamwork and leading small groups.

By the end of the course, students will have a better understanding of their communication and interpersonal styles, as well as how they can contribute to group settings.

PREREQUISITES

There are no specific prerequisites.

However, attendance at lectures and active participation are strongly recommended.

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching approach is predominantly experiential. Practical activities, guided exercises and opportunities for discussion will be offered to help students achieve the learning objectives.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The programme explores the essential soft skills required in today's professional environments, with a particular focus on effective communication and teamwork.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

During the lessons, texts will be recommended for further study of the content.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Students' suitability for the course will be assessed based on their performance in the programme's activities.

Students unable to attend classes must contact the lecturer to arrange an alternative learning pathway. In such cases, assessment will be conducted through a written test following independent study of an assigned text.

Students with valid certification for Specific Learning Disorders, disabilities or other educational needs are encouraged to contact the lecturer and the Polytechnic School’s Disability Coordinator, Prof Federico Scarpa (federico.scarpa@unige.it), at the start of the course. Together, they can agree on teaching and assessment arrangements that accommodate individual learning styles while maintaining the course objectives.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The activities completed during the course and the written exam will assess students’ understanding of the subject and their ability to think critically about the topics covered.
