The knowledge related to the validation of tools for the cognitive investigation of the main problems related to Dietetics is developed. The tools for evaluating the results of research in Dietetics are also analyzed AIMS AND CONTENT AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Define research, Dietetics research and evidence-based practice Discuss how research is used in Dietetics practice Describe the role of the Dietitian in research Quantitative research – Qualitative research TEACHING METHODS Lectures with interactive teaching work for small groups drills and training Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Discuss strategies needed to identify research problems Describe the process that turns a search problem into a search question Discuss the differences between defining the problem and defining the scope of research Critically analyze problem definition and purpose definition in a research article Describe the differences between dependent variables, independent variables, and extraneous variables Describe the categories in which to classify nursing research questions Describe the main study drawings in relation to the research question Describe the hierarchy of scientific evidence in relation to the study design Discuss nursing research articles focused on the implementation in clinical practice of dietitian interventions aimed at improving patient outcomes RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Handouts by the teacher Scientific articles TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD MILKO ZANINI LESSONS Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION oral exam ASSESSMENT METHODS The learning process takes place through the evaluation of the assignments proposed during the teaching period and the discussion of the course content in the final exam, aimed at assessing the level of achievement of the course objectives. The assessment of learning is carried out through the final exam only, which aims to verify the student’s actual acquisition of the expected learning outcomes. To pass the exam and obtain a grade not lower than 18/30, the student must demonstrate the ability to: Correctly define research, dietetic research, and evidence-based practice; Critically discuss how research is applied in the professional practice of the dietitian; Describe the role of the dietitian in research; Understand the fundamental principles of quantitative and qualitative research. The final grade, expressed in thirtieths, is based on: Ability to address the required topics in a transversal and critical manner; Accuracy, clarity, conciseness, and fluency of expression; Mastery of the subject matter; Use of appropriate terminology. A final grade of 30/30 with honors will be awarded when the knowledge and skills in the subject are deemed excellent.
