Particular attention will be given to socialization processes within different family forms, to inequalities in school systems, to socialization between peers and to the presence of second generations of immigrants in educational contexts. The laboratory activities are aimed at developing critical thinking on some concepts linked to family and parenting models present in contemporary Western society. Starting from the awareness of the social construction of these models, we will try to deepen our knowledge and its evolution over time and in different social contexts. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES AIMS: provide students with fundamental theoretical concepts of the discipline; learn to interpret educational experiences and places of education and training in light of the theoretical interpretations studied; develop critical thinking and the ability to interpret educational phenomena within specific social contexts; LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of the course, students should be able to: use the specific sociological terminology of the discipline understand the theoretical concepts presented during the course (authors, theoretical approaches, historical and social contexts of reference, etc.) explain and report on the theoretical concepts presented during the course (authors, theoretical approaches, historical and social contexts of reference, etc.) analyze different educational contexts and phenomena in light of different theoretical approaches acquire critical awareness through comparison between theoretical aspects and research and/or professional experiences presented in class and through study texts TEACHING METHODS The lessons will be organized according to thematic areas in which the various topics of the course will be presented, also in collaboration with external experts invited to the lessons. Students will be required to participate actively through discussions and group work, brainstorming, role-playing, and using the materials provided by the instructor and uploaded to the course website, which will then be discussed together during the lessons. During the course, various materials (videos, documentaries, slides, scientific articles, etc.) will be used to supplement the texts. These materials are to be considered, to all intents and purposes, study materials on a par with the volumes indicated in the program. As stated in the course description, the course includes a number of laboratory hours that will take place in parallel with the theoretical parts held in the classroom. The laboratories will allow students to explore some of the macro-themes developed in class in greater depth. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course will cover some of the main topics addressed by the discipline, with particular attention to: the relationship between education and society and its transformations; the different processes of socialization and identity formation; socialization agencies and their role; educational systems and processes of inequality; changes in family forms in recent decades; contemporary family models and the demands of educational services; migration processes in today's society and their impact on educational systems. During the oral interview, students must demonstrate clear theoretical references and precise concepts regarding the fundamentals of the sociology of education and the various topics covered during the course. In addition, students will be assessed on their competence in the specific use of disciplinary terminology used to analyze educational phenomena and their ability to make logical connections between the topics covered and the theoretical approaches analyzed. For those who attend, various formative assessment activities will be carried out during the lessons, which will contribute to the final assessment, as will participation in the activities proposed in the classroom. The same applies to laboratory hours.
