    OVERVIEW

Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, Chemistry and Propaedeutic Biochemistry will be a separate exam (6 CFU), with lessons held in the first semester of the first year of the course (the so-called "filter semester"), following the new access procedures to the degree course, regulated by Legislative Decree 15/05/2025 n° 71 and Ministerial Decree n° 418 of 30/05/2025. Ministerial Decree n. 418 of 30-05-2025 | Ministry of University and Research).

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

Provide basic knowledge in general and organic chemistry, to understand the relationships between different biomolecules and their role in human metabolism. Acquire fundamental knowledge on macromolecules, to contextualize the chemical reactions that give rise to metabolism. In this way, the student will be able to understand human biochemistry and its applications to medicine and health-related disciplines.

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Attendance and participation in educational activities will allow students to gain familiarity with the chemical representation and reactivity of inorganic and organic compounds with reference to aspects of medical interest.

Each topic is designed to meet the specific knowledge needs required to understand how an alteration in the composition of an aqueous solution or modification of an organic structure involved in cellular processes can interfere with physiological biochemical mechanisms. Ultimately, this course is preparatory to facilitating the subsequent understanding of various subfields of topics essential for the adequate preparation of medical graduates.

The course topics are detailed in the Syllabus attached to Ministerial Decree 418/2025, including the number of credits to be dedicated to the specific treatment of the various topics.

    PREREQUISITES

The required initial knowledge is that required in the secondary school curricula for chemistry, established by the National Guidelines for High Schools and the Guidelines for Technical Institutes and Vocational Institutes.

As specified in paragraph 6 of Article 4 of Legislative Decree No. 71 of May 15, 2025, with regard to the curriculum offered during the filter semester, the rules regarding the assessment of the required knowledge (Additional Learning Obligations, OFA) for admission to degree programs do not apply.

    TEACHING METHODS

Face-to-face lessons, with the option of remote attendance. Attendance is mandatory and will be verified using the University's Easy Academy platform.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course program is detailed in the Syllabus attached to Ministerial Decree 418/2025, also for the number of credits to be dedicated to the specific treatment of the different topics.
