AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of this course is to provide students with a broad overview of the main speech‑language therapy interventions used with children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

By the end of the course, students are expected to have acquired:

  • A solid awareness of the main interventions used with children with DLD.

  • A clear understanding of the characteristics of an effective rehabilitation plan.

  • Foundational knowledge of the methodologies, tools, and rehabilitation procedures available for intervention with children with DLD.

  • An adequate understanding of current scientific evidence regarding interventions for children with DLD.

  • Basic competence in selecting appropriate therapeutic tools through clinical reasoning, based on the child’s clinical profile, age, severity, individual characteristics, life context, and health needs.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures with small‑group activities.

Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), disabilities, or other educational needs are invited to contact the instructor and the School’s disability support officer at the beginning of the course to agree on any teaching arrangements that, while respecting the course objectives, take individual learning styles into account.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

  • Development of a rehabilitation plan: definition and characteristics of the Individual Rehabilitation Plan (IRP).

  • Types of interventions used in clinical practice for children with DLD.

  • Main direct interventions for children with DLD.

  • Clinical case reflections.

  • Overview of emerging rehabilitation approaches (rehabilitation software, interventions integrated with executive functions).
