OVERVIEW

The course Russian Language and Elements of Linguistics (code: 117675; CFU: 9) includes Theoretical Module (Modulo Teorico, 30 hours), taught by Professor Nataliya Kardanova, and practical Russian language (Lettorato, 120 hours), taught by Professors Daria Farafonova (30 hours), Nataliya Kardanova (30 hours) and Ioulia Maklakova (60 hours).

The Theoretical Module lessons (30 hours) will be held in the second semester.

The Practical modules lessons will be held in the first (60 hours: 30+30 hours taught by Professors Daria Farafonova and Ioulia Maklakova) and second (60 hours: 30+30 hours taught by Professors Nataliya Kardanova and Ioulia Maklakova) semesters.

The course is borrowed from the The Syntactic System of the Russian Language course (code: 117881; CFU: 9)  with the same teachers, the same number of hours and the same timetable.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course, carried out in the Russian language, is aimed at developing and exercising bilingual skills in the standard language, raising awareness of register differences, communicative pragmatics, linguistic creativity, and sectoral terminological specificities.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to complete the linguistic (CEFR level B2/C1) and cultural preparation of future Russian language and literature experts. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

- Identify and describe Russian morphosyntactic and syntactic structures in texts related to current affairs and professional matters and use when discussing the topics.
- Understand, produce and discuss texts on current Russian and professional topics.
- Be able to manage in Russian a simulated work situation.
- Effectively use the main lexicographical tools and electronic support repertoires.

PREREQUISITES

Proficiency level for Russian as a foreign language matching that required for admission to the master's degree (B2 - Common European Framework of Reference for Language skills).

TEACHING METHODS

The lessons of the theoretical module will take place in the second semester (3 hours per week), the practical modules will take place both in the first and in the second semester (3 +3 hours per week).

MT (30 hours, second semester, 3 hours per week) and Lettorato (120 hours: 30+30 in the first semester and 30+30 in the second semester; in the first and second semesters, 3 hours per week of the first lettorato + 3 hours per week of the second lettorato): classroom lessons supported by material provided on AulaWeb (code 117881) and Teams (code 117881).

MT (30 hours, second semester, 3 hours per week) and the Lettorato (30 hours, second semester, 3 hours per week) taught by Professor Kardanova, in addition to lessons, involve group work, monitoring of the work of attending students and flipped classroom teaching.

Attendance is free, but highly recommended.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Theoretical Module (MT) and Practical modules ("Lettorato"): Syntax of simple sentences, syntax of complex sentences, morphosyntax of the verb, verbal aspect, verbs of motion, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, interjections: contrastive analysis. Main stylistic registers. Historical, political, and cultural aspects of contemporary Russia.

The program for both attending and non-attending students is the same.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Theoretical Module (Nataliya Kardanova) oral exam includes 1. question on the topics related to the syntactic system of Russian,  2. reading, translation and syntactic analysis; 3 conversation on the topics studied during the semester with the use and analysis of the morphosyntactic structures studied in the semester; 4. active and passive sight translation.

Practical Module ("Lettorato"):

Prof. Natalia Kardanova: oral exam includes 1. conversation on the essai (text and glossary) prepared during the semester (for attending students) or for the exam (for non-attending students). 2. conversation on the lexical topic studing during the semester. 3. simulation of a work situation with conversation and liaison interpreting, always on the topics studied in the semester and on the topic of the essai.

Prof. Daria Farafonova and Prof. Ioulia Maklakova: written (lexical and grammar tests, one for each part of the classes, pertaining to the topics covered in the Lettorato).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Theoretical Module  (Nataliya Kardanova): oral exam aimed at verifying the student's familiarity with the topics taught in the classes, also in the analysis of the proposed syntactic structures, in the production of oral discourse and in active and passive sight translation.

 

Practical Module ("Lettorato").

Prof. Nataliya Kardanova: oral exam aimed at verifying the student's ability to use the morphosyntactic structures used when dealing with topics of everyday life, current affairs and the professional field, as well as in carrying out liaison interpreting.

Prof. Daria Farafonova and Prof. Ioulia Maklakova: lexico-grammatical test aimed at checking the knowledge of the topics.
