AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES This course is designed to provide the fundamental knowledge to understand the concepts of biochemistry processes that control the functioning and homeostasis of cells and body in physiological and pathophysiological conditions. TEACHING METHODS Plenary lectures (delivered live or on the Teams platform according to University guidelines due to the SARS-CoV2 emergency) Students with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) or special educational needs are required to contact the Instructor(s) and the dedicated SLD Representative at the Department before the start of the course, in order to agree on specific teaching arrangements and ensure the proper achievement of learning objectives and outcomes SYLLABUS/CONTENT The Biochemistry II module will provide a detailed description of the integrated biochemistry of organs and tissues. It will provide useful knowledge to enhance understanding of other medical disciplines and clinics, and illustrate the main mechanisms of biochemical regulation of metabolism in the liver, skeletal and cardiac muscles, adipose tissue, digestive system and nervous system. The hormonal and metabolic regulation of metabolism, as well as the conditions that can lead to its alteration, will be described.
