AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides the theoretical and methodological skills necessary for the understanding of the most relevant problems of the components present in modern electrical systems for energy, with particular reference to the integration of renewable sources

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the teaching unit, students will be able to:

Describe the operation of the main electrical devices
Describe a real object with a circuit model
Predict the behavior of the device starting from the circuit model that has been proposed by exploiting the theory of electrical circuits
Present an argument by defining its logical flow, starting from the hypotheses to the final results, respecting the criteria of formal correctness
Analyze realistic problems or test cases using the theoretical knowledge imparted in class

As for soft skills, students will have strengthened their ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form, developing critical thinking.

Stress management, the ability to concentrate, critical reflection with respect to a task and autonomy in decisions will be developed and trained.

The course activities will help students in managing their social interactions, in constructive communication, in the ability to respect others and their needs by providing their assessments but overcoming prejudices.

Finally, attention will be paid to increasing awareness of one's own learning strategies.

TEACHING METHODS

The lectures will be conducted in an interactive manner, encouraging student participation through questions that connect with concepts they already possess and stimulating their ability to approach a problem by breaking it down into its main aspects.

Additionally, exercises will be proposed first by the teachers; subsequently, group activities will be organized where students can work together to solve cases similar to those presented and then present their solutions to their peers.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Overview on electromagnetic fields.

The main electrical machines: Transformers, induction machines, synchronous machines

Principles of static conversion in electrical energy

Prodcution of energy from photovoltaic plants

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

Specific indications on reference bibliography will beprovided by the professor at the beginning of the lectures

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

There will be a written exam, followed by an oral part.

Group exercises proposed during the semester will give the students the option to increase their mark, according to the rules that will be explained at the beginning of the teaching unit

ASSESSMENT METHODS

In the oral exam, the clarity of the presentation, the precision of the language, and the logical flow of the response are evaluated.
In the written exam, instead, the ability to identify the appropriate methodology for the case in question and to use it to achieve the result is assessed

Students with a certified learning disability (DSA), a disability, or other special educational needs are invited to contact the instructor at the beginning of the course to discuss teaching and examination arrangements that, while respecting the learning objectives of the course, take individual learning needs into account and provide appropriate accommodations.
Please also note that requests for exam accommodations or exemptions must be submitted using the form available at this link
https://modulionline.unige.it/richiesta-adattamenti#no-back , to the course professor, the DIME contact person (federico.scarpa@unige.it), and the relevant office ( inclusione.studenti@info.unige.it) at least seven working days before the examination, in accordance with the guidelines available at this link
