With reference to national contexts, both singular and in comparative terms, framed in a global perspective, it analyses the great economic, political, social, cultural events and the international relations transformations of the two centuries. It also introduces the students to the critical use of documentary sources and to the knowledge of the debate relating to the most relevant historiographical issues. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, the student will have acquired knowledge of the main historical turning points of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; he will thus be able to formulate critical judgments and to present, with the appropriate vocabulary, the arguments inherent to the historical disciplines. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the fundamental scientific knowledge relating to the main issues of the history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and the work of its most important protagonists. He/she will be able to analyze and critically intersect them, in a diachronic and synchronic key with reference to the different spatial contexts, and to reflect on them by formulating autonomous opinions. He/she will have the ability to express, with propriety of language and skills of expository organization, the knowledge acquired and the suitability to undertake further studies in the disciplinary sector and in other similar ones. PREREQUISITES Knowledge of the Italian language. Basic historical knowledge of the period considered and ability to identify the geographical location of the States. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of lecures for a total of 54 hours (equivalent to 9 Cfu), also with the use of powerpoint. It will be held in face-to- face and online teaching mode. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Specifically, the following topics will be covered: The Congress of Vienna and the Restoration From the uprisings of 1820-1821 to the 1848 uprising The Italian and German unification The Oriental Question The extra-European world: China, Japan, Latin America; the Civil War in the US Imperialism and colonialism Italy of Giolitti From the Russian Revolution of 1905 to the First World War The Russian Revolution The Treaties of Paris and their consequences Post-war and Fascism The Republic of Weimar; Hitler and the Nazis The Second World War The post-war period and the Cold War Large international post-war crisis. Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The exam, that covers the entire program, is oral and in Italian, and takes place exclusively during official exam sessions.It lasts about 20 minutes. Foreig student it can be hold in English. Only if requested on the basis of justified needs it can be kept in written form. For students having Carriera ponte, 6 credits,exams are taken in regural exam sessions. ASSESSMENT METHODS The achievement of the objectives of the course is verified through two questions, one relating to the 19th century and the other to the 20th century.. If one of the answer were insufficient, a third question will be posed. An additional question will concern the chosen reading indicated in the program. The exam will evaluate the student's knowledges, critical reasoning ability, quality of presentation and vocabulary.
