OVERVIEW

The module of Molecular Biology and Marine Biotechnology consists of two strongly interconnected sub-modules. The teaching will provide the student with theoretical and practical skills related to the molecular mechanisms that underlie the life and adaptations of marine organisms. It will also provide knowledge related to the use of the most modern biotechnologies and nanotechnologies derived from marine biodiversity that are largely based on molecular biology and biochemistry. The student will acquire both basic and applied skills necessary to address the general issues of marine biodiversity conservation.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide students with an in-depth theoretical understanding of the biology of marine organisms, with a particular focus on the molecular and functional aspects underlying adaptations to the marine environment, and to introduce them to the main technological applications derived from biomolecular and structural studies of marine organisms.

PREREQUISITES

There are no specific requirements.

TEACHING METHODS

Students with a physical disability or learning disability certification submitted to the University can find information on support services on the webpage https://unige.it/disabilita-dsa, prepared by the “Office for Inclusion Services for Students with Disabilities and SLD”.

Students may also contact Professor Cristina Carbone (cristina.carbone@unige.it), the DISTAV disability contact person.
