The mother-child and developmental nutrition course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to optimize and improve nutrition during the crucial phases of life. You will explore the latest research, evidence-based practices, and practical strategies to support healthy growth and development, and to address nutritional issues in many clinical situations AIMS AND CONTENT AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES 1)Knowledge and understanding: -Gain a comprehensive understanding of the nutritional needs of healthy and sick pediatric patients - Demonstrate knowledge of factors influencing nutritional needs during different stages of childhood and adolescence -Identify key nutrients and their role in growth, development and disease prevention for pediatric populations 2) Application of knowledge and understanding: -Develop the ability to assess the nutritional status of both healthy and sick pediatric patients -Apply appropriate assessment methods and tools to consider the nutritional needs and potential deficiencies of pediatric patients - Be able to interpret and analyse the data of the nutritional evaluation to guide dietary recommendations and interventions -Design and implement personalized dietary approaches for healthy and sick pediatric patients, considering their specific nutritional needs, preferences and cultural backgrounds -Apply problem-solving skills to address nutrition-related challenges and develop effective strategies to promote optimal health and growth in pediatric populations The effective acquisition of such knowledge and skills will be verified through the examination process, which may include written assessments, case studies, practical exercises and oral presentations TEACHING METHODS Teaching methods of the Maternal, Child and Developmental Nutrition course are aimed at guaranteeing the effective acquisition of knowledge and the development of practical skills. The teaching is divided into 30 hours of training activities and includes theoretical-frontal lessons, exercises, case studies and possible institutional seminars: -Lectures: These sessions provide a comprehensive theoretical overview of the course topics and concepts. They will concern the treatment of the nutritional needs of pediatric patients, both healthy and those with pathologies -Clinical case hands-on exercises: provide the opportunity for interactive discussions, clarification of doubts, and focus on specific topics, so students can apply their knowledge and skills. Practical experience in assessing the nutritional status of pediatric patients, analyzing dietary patterns and designing personalized dietary approaches will be implemented. Students can engage in active learning, ask questions and receive guidance from the teacher. The case studies will be used to simulate real-life scenarios, enabling students to analyze complex nutritional issues in pediatric patients. Problem solving and critical thinking skills will be developed in developing appropriate dietary interventions - Teamwork: Collaborative teamwork improves communication skills. Students will work in teams to analyze and discuss case studies, share ideas and develop effective strategies for managing nutrition-related challenges in pediatric populations -Workshops with active student participation: Workshops will be conducted to encourage active student participation. These sessions will include learning checks, such as quizzes or small group activities, to ensure understanding and engagement with the course material Students are strongly encouraged to attend all educational activities to fully benefit from the interactive nature of the course. During this testing, students will be assessed on their understanding of course content, including knowledge of nutritional needs, assessment methods, dietary interventions, and management of pediatric patients. Students can be asked questions on various topics, such as nutritional needs of healthy pediatric patients, specific nutritional considerations for pediatric patients with different pathologies, assessment techniques, development of personalized dietary approaches. ASSESSMENT METHODS The verification of learning will be conducted through a final oral exam, aimed at ascertaining the student's understanding of the contents of the course and his ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills. During the exam, the student will be assessed on his knowledge and understanding of the nutritional needs of healthy and sick pediatric patients, identification of nutritional status, setting of personalized dietary approaches and other relevant topics outlined in the educational objectives. The student must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the topic, including the ability to apply knowledge for problem solving and decision making in the context of maternal, infant, and developmental nutrition. To pass the exam and obtain a grade of at least 18/30, the student must demonstrate: -Expertise in knowledge and understanding of nutritional needs of healthy and sick pediatric patients. -Ability to identify the nutritional status of both healthy and diseased pediatric patients. -Expertise in setting personalized dietary approaches for pediatric patients based on their specific nutritional needs and conditions. - Demonstrated understanding of concepts, theories and principles related to maternal, infant and developmental nutrition. As a contribution to the final assessment, the student's ability to deal with the required topics in a transversal and critical way will be considered. Correctness, clarity, synthesis and expository fluidity in answering the questions will be evaluated. Subject matter mastery will be assessed, including depth of knowledge and understanding. The use of appropriate terminology and linguistic proficiency will be taken into account.
