OVERVIEW

The course provides the fundamental concepts of structural engineering regarding steel and reinforced concrete structures, with specific reference to materials, and the design and verification of structural systems. Theoretical lectures are complemented by case studies, some of which are fully developed up to the preparation of final project drawings.
Module 1 covers the principles of structural modeling and safety, with reference to structural actions, material strength, and current technical standards. It introduces steel, detailing its mechanical properties alongside the design and verification criteria for elements subjected to axial force, and subsequently addresses reinforced concrete structures, discussing the main verification procedures.
Module 2 builds upon steel construction to provide a comprehensive framework for the design and verification criteria of structural elements, as well as bolted and welded connections.
