THE Journalism in French literature during the late eiteenth and nineteenth century

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

To provide knowledge on the outline of the French cultural and literary history of the period 1750-1900. At the end of the course the student is able to read and understand texts in language and is initiated using the methods and basic analytical tools to interpret the works of the main authors, contextualizing them in culture and historical period.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The Journalism in French literature during the late eiteenth and nineteenth century
The course aims to follow the evolution and development of the French literary culture of the period indicated through the study of the journalistic activity of the writers. The most representatives of literary writing, belonging to major literary movements and schools that have set up moments of renewal and creative experimentation, will be studied from their commitment as journalists for the most important magazines of the period in question. We will work more specifically on the novel  Bel ami by Guy de Maupassant and the film adaptation of Philippe Triboit (2005).

Anthological choice: the texts that will be read and explained during the lectures will be published on the e-learning portal of the University (aulaweb) and will constitute an examination subject. The final list of readings will be published on aulaweb at the end of the course.

READING FULL TEXTS: four books choosen in agreement with the professor among those presented in class. Students must inform the choice at least a month before the exam in the space of Aulaweb.

GROUP WORK on journalistic production of the most important writers will be carried out during the course. Terms of participation and content will be presented in class and will of aulaweb.

ONLINE COURSE are made available to students two online depth study courses (Histoire de la colonization francaise de l'Histoire esclavagisme en France). The full development of the online course is a prerequisite to enrollment examination.

Oral exam

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will consist of an oral test in French on the course contents through questions from the Commission. The candidate will have to choose an anthology extract of those in the program and will have twenty minutes to prepare. Following exposure of the contents of the text will be put to the candidate at least one question for each of the areas and periods treated. In examination assessment will be taken into account, as well as knowledge of the program to be performed (topics covered in class, reading and analysis of texts proposed during the lessons, the materials made available on aulaweb platform and readings of full texts), also the exhibition and accuracy skills in the use of the specific discipline language.
