OVERVIEW

The goal of the Health Psychology is to look away from diagnosis and therapy in order to focalize attention on dynamics of development of the person in environment. Focal point are therefore the resources through which to promote the personal and social well-being.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course will explore the concept of health through analysis of its theoretical evolution and will provide a critical interpretation of the psychological and social processes involved in its construction.

The theme will be analyzed through exploration of the most important lines of action, considering contexts and intervention methodologies.

The course is complemented by a workshop on the issues of prevention and health promotion in educational, health, community contexts.

TEACHING METHODS

The course will consist of theorical lessons (with support of slides) and workshop. The workshop will be characterized by exercises in small group and opportunities for discussion among participants.

The workshop is an integral part of the course, and attendance is mandatory. You can't take the exam without having before attended the workshop.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The contents of the course are the analysis of the epistemological premises and of the theoretical developments of Health Psychology (from the bio-medical perspective until the weakness of the bio-psycho-social model); the determinants and the processes relevant to health; prevention and health promotion; lines of action, methods and contexts of the health psychology interventions.

The exam is an assessment of knowledge through an interview about a concept map prepared by the student and based on the topics of the course.
