This unit provides an overwiew on the design process of motor yachts, including notions regarding high speed craft

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

This units aims to complete the student skills in the naval architecture field through the study of advanced topics specifically concerning the preliminary phase of the design.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

This unit aims to complete the student skills in the naval architecture field through the study of topics relevant to high speed craft, namely planing hull forms and surface piercing propellers.

Lectures and exercises

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Definition of planing.

Resistance components of a planing craft.

Influence of the hull geometrical parameters on motion resistance.

Methods for the trim control of crafts.

Methods for the resistance prediction of a planing hull: systematic series, statistical methods, Savitsky method.

Surface piercing propellers
