This course is an introduction to computer science focused on the applications and tools related to computer science, including computers, networks and personal productivity softwares AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES To provide a set of knowledge and skills in the field of information technology to support the student in both academic path and professional activity. The course aims to provide theoretical and applicative knowledge for the understanding and use of computers and computer networks. The topics discussed in the theoretical part will be the following: digital representation of information, computer architecture, software and operating system, computer networks, the Internet and network application services. The theoretical part will be complemented by a part designed to provide practical knowledge on computer usage. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course LCM students (6 CFU) will: - be familiar with a set of basic knowledge on information and communication technologies - have gained a deeper understanding of text encoding - have acquired basic knowledge about image, audio and video coding - have acquired basic knowledge about computer security - have acquired advanced competences in the use of software tools (word processors and spreadsheets) At the end of the course TTMI students (3 CFU) will: - be familiar with a set of basic knowledge on information and communication technologies - have gained a deeper understanding of text encoding - have acquired advanced competences in the use of software tools (word processors and spreadsheets) TEACHING METHODS Blended course composed of in class (6 hours) and online (30 hours) learning activities.
