CODE 72324 ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022 CREDITS 8 cfu anno 1 INGEGNERIA EDILE - ARCHITETTURA 9914 (LM-4) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/02 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER Annual TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The course illustrates the methodologies for the study of hydraulic works in the urban areas in order to design systems both in normal operating conditions and in exceptional operating conditions. The course is organized in two semesters: the first one introduces the fundamentals of hydraulics (free surface and under pressure) while the second one introduces the fundamentals of hydrology to be able to carry out the sizing of simple hydraulic works in urban areas. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course illustrates the methodologies for the study of hydraulic works in urban areas in order to design systems both in normal operating conditions and in exceptional operating conditions. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The Hydraulic Infrastructure course is structured in order to provide students with the following skills: Know and know how to use the basic principles of hydraulics that regulate the flow of water in open channels or within a system of pipes; Evaluate the flow conditions determined by the interaction with anthropogenic structures; Know the main artifacts of the distribution networks; Define the schematization of the hydrological processes according to the variable to be analyzed; Evaluate the hydrological processes that regulate the inflow-outflow transformation process both in the natural and anthropic areas; Know the different methodologies for the sizing of urban drainage networks and simple hydraulic artifact; Prepare the preliminary calculation report for the sizing of an urban drainage network. PREREQUISITES There are no specific prerequisites, if not the basic knowledge of mathematics and physics. TEACHING METHODS The course includes 100 hours of lessons of which about 40 will be related to the development of exercises in order to deepen the issues addressed from a theoretical point of view. In particular, the following teaching methods are envisaged: frontal teaching lessons dedicated to introductory topics to free surface hydraulics, pressure hydraulics and fundamentals of hydrology; exercises; laboratory activity, carried out in groups (consisting of a maximum of 3 students) relating to the hydraulic verification of a stretch of riverbed (proposed by the teacher) and the preliminary design of a drainage network in an urban context chosen by the students. It should be noted that the laboratory activities for the verification of the hydraulic operating conditions of a portion of the riverbed as well as for the definition of the layout of the drainage network as well as the setting of the calculation report for the evaluation of the project hyetograms and for the sizing of the pipeline network take place mainly in the classroom. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The main contents of the course are the following: Basic knowledge of open channel and pressure flow hydraulics. Design and analysis of small hydraulic structures and devices. Water supply systems and the main hydraulic connection devices. Open channel flow, estimation of channel-conveyance capacity with respect to the design flow, interactions between channel flow and anthropic structures (such as bridge, culvert, crossing) Basic knowledge of hydrology and hydrologic processes (hydrologic balance, watershed characteristics, etc.) Urban drainage network, design storm. Design and analysis of urban drainage system under peak design flow RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY The slides projected as part of the frontal teaching lessons, any supplementary material (also depending on specific student requests) are made available through the online support on AulaWeb. The support material for carrying out the guided exercises in the classroom and for the calculation component of the design report is also made available through AulaWeb. The material uploaded on AulaWeb is to be considered supplementary and supportive with respect to classroom lessons. In general, students must demonstrate synthesis and presentation skills as well as the ability to critically rework and effectively use the knowledge acquired. ASSESSMENT METHODS The oral exam aims to evaluate the operational skills acquired by the student during the course; during the oral session, the student also discusses / exposes the project reports relating to the hydraulic checks of a stream and the urban drainage network project.
