OVERVIEW

This course is intended to provide an introduction to operations and process management for anyone wishing to understand its nature, principles, dynamics and practice. Starting from the fundamental concepts that explain how logistics and factory operations behave, how they can be managed, and how they can be improved, the course does not deal with immutable laws or prescriptions that establish how operations should be managed, nor does it provide sterile descriptions that they just explain or classify the problems. The operational capacity to be transferred is that of carrying out diagnosis of production and service systems. This diagnosis represents the starting point for questioning and analyzing the fundamental drivers of operations performance, discovering the underlying trade-offs that operations must face and resolve, and the implications and consequences of the lines of action that could be undertake.

Operational ability to diagnose production and service systems as a starting point for questioning, analyzing the fundamental drivers of operations performance, the trade-offs that characterize operations together with the implications and consequences regarding the lines of action that could be undertaken.

Understanding the operational activities related to logistics, industrial production and the provision of related services. 
Knowing the concepts and operational methods of management with particular reference to the intra-organizational dimension and the extension to the inter-organizational dimension related to logistics processes.
Analyzing the main phases of the production logistic process with reference to qualitative and quantitative analysis and resolution techniques.
Providing specific skills that allow students to apply and solve the typical problems of managing logistics, production and service systems.

TEACHING METHODS

The twelve topics will be developed approximately over 12 weeks of frontal lessons divided into two days of lessons per week.
Some seminars will be organized.
Attendance is compulsory or recommended.
Some simple exercises will be carried out.
Media such as web videos will be used.
The lessons will be held with the support of power point presentations (related to a textbook) and held in Italian.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Written exam with multiple choice test and exercises for a maximum grade of 27/30 carried out over an indicative time of 1 hour.
Optional oral exam if written mark greater than or equal to 18/30 to be agreed with the teacher.
Both tests will be on all the topics presented and discussed in class.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Written exam in the classroom.
The written exam will assess the level of knowledge of the main concepts and the ability to solve simple exercises.
Oral exam in presence.
The oral exam will allow you to check your reasoning skills and connect different concepts with each other.

The quality of the exposition, the correct use of the specialist vocabulary, the ability of critical reasoning will also be assessed.

Any modalities due to COVID restrictions will be evaluated during the semester.
