Specifically, the main technologies related to antennas, global positioning system, satellite communication and on-board networking will be introduced.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at introducing the basics of telecommunications, from signals (sampling, modulation, frequency analysis) to computer networks (transmission media and network protocols). At the end of the course, emphasis will be given to some of the main telecommunication systems usually present onboard by analysing the technology behind RADAR, SONAR and GPS.

PREREQUISITES

Basic knowledge of mathematics, geometry and physics.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lectures.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Basics of the communication systems and on-board networking. Radio and satellite systems. Wired and wireless communication systems for data and voice (3G/4G, WiFi).

Global Positioning System (GPS).
