AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main purpose of the course is to provide the basic knowledge on Biology and the host-parasite interactions of protozoa and parasitic animals of human beings., to be able to recognize morphologically the species or groups of major parasitological interest, to know the rules of hygienic prophylaxis in order to contain/eliminate infestations or infections caused by protozoa and parasitic animals.

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching is organized in frontal lessons for a total of 8 hours. In the event of a health emergency, frontal teaching can be carried in telematic mode.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Fields of study of Parasitology. Leishmaniosis and trypanosomiasis. The amoebae. Malaria. Toxoplasmosis. The Metazoa: Tapeworms (solium, echinococcus). Nematodes: Pinworms and Hookworm.

LESSONS START

Parasitology lessons begin at the end of the first semester generally in mid-January. In periods of health emergency they are held remotely using the TEAMS platform and the code to enter the classroom is communicated via Aulaweb/Unige.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam consists of of a written essay on a topic chosen from those discussed during the lessons.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The achievement of the learning outcomes by the student will be ascertained by evaluating the written essay.
