SEMESTER | 1° Semester |
MODULES | This unit is a module of: |
TEACHING MATERIALS | AULAWEB |
The module concerns the introduction to conservation and enhancement of existing historical nautical heritage and to the nautical product culture (history, technical and technological features, composition…). Fundamental tools (method and design approach) will be introduced in order to face a restoration or refitting project with the aim of providing the student an appropriate design sensitivity towards these particular types of projetcs.Through lectures and practical exercises, students must demonstrate their awareness and care towards the topics of conservation and enhancement of Cultural and Nautical Heritage. Students will also learn design tools such as:
- research and analysis;
- ideation;
- synthesis;
- graphic editing;
- drafts, technical drawings, mock-ups.
The module concerns:
- restoration, refitting and restyling principles, also for not nautical contexts;
- recognising, awareness and categorizing of historical vessels;
- introduction to traditional features, materials and construction technologies typical of historical vessels;
- approach to the restoration project, consisting of guidelines, design process and method;
- case studiy presentation;
- practical application through exercises or short projects in teams.
During the module, external visits, detail studies, exercises and short projects are also considered.
Both theoretical lessons and exercises of Disegno Industriale 2.1 are fundamental to the design activities of Disegno Industriale 2.2.
The specific topic of the year is defined before the lessons start and it will be promptly communicated to students on the aulaweb page. Aulaweb is the main tool for communication and weekly updates by professors.

Oral and laboratorial (exercises/pre-project)
The exam consists of the evaluation of final and intermediate compositions developed during the teaching and their critical discussion in light of the theoretical content learned during the semester.
The final result is calculated as the average of the marks obtained in the exercises and the oral exam where the lecturer will comment the student’s submissions.
The review of the intermediate submissions (exercises or short project) considers completeness, interpretation capability, in-depth analysis, graphical editing of the assigned theme. The oral exam verifies: memorising and comprehension of principles and concepts, critic elaboration capabilities, design application capabilities.
