OVERVIEW

During classes the economic role of transport infrastructure will be discussed along with the most popular economic techniques for their assessment and the main features of network industries.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Good knowledge of the theoretical contributions and ability to apply the techniques of estimation of the economic and social impact, cost-benefit analysis and complex network theory to the transport sector.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Classes aim at developing a critical analysis of main features of the planning, project and managing stages of transport infrastructure. Moreover, students will be able to identify the economic and social effects of transport infrastructure both at national and regional scale.

Students will be able to conduct the assessment of an infrastructural projects.

PREREQUISITES

Basic knowledge of macro and microeconomics

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures, seminars, discussion of case studies. In accordance with the rules due to the pandemic emergency some activities may be performed using on-line platforms (Aulaweb and Teams).

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Part I: Macroeconomic impact of transport infrastructure 

Part II: Bulding costs and measures of capacity of transport infrastructure

Part III: Cost-Benefit Analysis and multi-criteria analysis

Part IV: Features of network industries, centrality measures; complex network theory; positive feedbacks

For students attending classes a list or readings (in English) will be available on Aulaweb.

Students non attending classes may prepare the exam on the book: Ferrari-Bottasso-Conti-Tei (2019) Economic role of transport infrastructure, Elsevier (chapter 6 excluded)
