    OVERVIEW

    Course description

    This course aims at offering an overview of the economic growth and development from the Modern Age to the 21st century in a comparative perspective by focusing on the strategic factors responsible for modern growth.

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    n this course, the long-term economic development is studied. The course traces the main transformations of the international economy starting from the industrial revolution; it focuses on some significant issues, such as population, agriculture, international commerce, manufacturing, and finance.

    -Before  the modern industry: preindustrial societies

    -Population patterns

    -The start of modern Industry. England’s 17th century

    - Development patterns:  the Second Comers.

    - From the first globalization to the second World War

    -The modern economic development from 1945 to 1979

    - The second globalization and its crises
