    OVERVIEW

    The course analyses the functions of the sensory and motor systems and physiology of vision.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    The course will furnish to the students fundamental knowledge about the physiology of the sensory and motor systems and about visual system in particular.

    TEACHING METHODS

    Teaching consists of theoretical “frontal” lessons for a total of 20 hours (2 CFUs)

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    Sensory systems: transduction  and coding

    Somatic senses: touch, thermoception and pain

    Motor Units, mechanisms of force graduation, force/length and force/velocity relation.

    Fundamental of motor system. Spinal cord organization and control by cortex and brainstem. Muscle receptors and spinal reflexes. Voluntary movement at glance.

    The eye and the retina. Phototransduction.

    Central visual pathways. Retina projections. Visual field and related deficit. The primary visual cortex organization, receptive fields. The ocular motor system.

    EXAMS

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

    Oral interview. The exam will last 15-20 minutes. It is based on some questions concerning the various topics of the program. During the exam the teacher will evaluate the student's ability to report on the topics discussed in the lessons.

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

    Exposure clarity, connectivity, rigor, and communicative ability are valued. The teacher also evaluates the student's ability to perform critical analysis and links between the various contents discussed in the lesson. To overcome the test, it is necessary to obtain a passing grade evaluation for all the questions
