OVERVIEW

The course aims to foster understanding by students of clinical conditions that characterize psychopathology in adulthood. They will, therefore, discuss the concepts of normality and pathology, structure and personality urging a critical understanding of the various models of interpretation.

It will finally outlined the characteristics, the etiology and psychodynamics of the main diagnostic pictures through the presentation and discussion of several clinical cases useful to deepen the main forms of psychopathology.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to connect the fundamental notions of adult psychopathology with the main diagnostic frameworks, integrating the approach of descriptive symptomatic psychopathology with structural psychopathology of psychodynamic matrix.

TEACHING METHODS

The course will take place through lectures, if allowed by the Covid emergency. The second part of the course also includes the presentation of clinical material.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

General psychopathology of psychic functions: diagnosis and classifications.
 

Emotions, emotional regulation, and psychopathology.

Clinical meeting and diagnostic placement.

Descriptive and interpretative psychopathology.
Psychosis and Neurosis: the psychodynamic point of view.

Schizophrenia. Delusional disorder, schizophreniform disorder, schizoaffective disorder, short psychosis.

Mood disorders: depression, dysthymia, mania, bipolar disorders.

Anxiety disorder.

Dissociative disorders.

Substance Addiction Disorder. Alcoholism and Drug Addiction.

Disorders of eating behavior.

Disturbances in impulse control.

Paraphilias.

Personality and its disorders. Ethno-Psychiatry and ethnic syndromes.
