SYLLABUS/CONTENT

What is Philosophy of history

The concept of history plays a fundamental role in human thought. It raises the possibility of learning from history. And it suggests the possibility of better understanding ourselves in the present, by understanding the forces, choices, and circumstances that brought us to our current situation. The philosophy of history turned the attention to efforts to examine history itself and the nature of historical knowledge. The philosophy of history is therefore essentially an ethical, ontologic and, ultimately, ethical-religious matter.

Metaphysics and ethics by Fichte

In 1804 Fichte published The Characteristics of the Present Age that employ the Theory of Science for the purpose of the philosophy of history. The preset age, Fichte says, is the metaphycal age of liberation from instict and external authority, out of wich humanity will be ultimately of the life of reason. In 1806 Fichte published The Way Towards the Blessed Life, which is sometimes said to be a mystical work, a treatise of morality and religion in ethical Life with God.
