OVERVIEW

The course tackles a thematic path through the centuries beginning with the era of geographical explorations and arriving at Napoleonic era. Students must have a good knowledge of general history between the ancient and the medieval period

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students will have a solid knowledge of the major themes and processes in the history of Europe between the 15th and the 19th centuries. Students will also learn a method to critically analyze historiographic literature and sources of early modern history. The aim of the teaching is to provide students with conceptual tools and interpretative categories to reconstruct the history of the past, to critically read a text or a document, to establish connections between processes and events, and to communicate with a scientific language the results of a reading or research. At the end of the teaching the students must be able to present and critically discuss the proposed and / or recommended texts for the individual study activity.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Analysing fundamental themes and issues of modern history by presenting different historiographical interpretations and perspectives. Illustrating historical research methods and procedures also by working with sources in order to stimulate a critical approach and an initial knowledge of criteria used to build historiographical discourses

As far as learning outcomes are concerned, the student, at the end of the course, will be able to understand a text of history and historiography of the modern age, discuss it and insert it into the current scientific debate. The student must also have developed disciplinary skills, as well as basic knowledge of the subject.

PREREQUISITES

To know how to read and communicate correctly in Italian. have acquired the basic historical knowledge of the secondary school. If necessary, be able to read a text in a foreign language of the European Union in addition to your mother tongue.

Module II: Handouts provided by the lecturer (will be uploaded on Aulaweb). Students of the "CdS in Storia" should prepare themselves using the handouts corresponding to all 20 lectures of the module. Students of the "Cds in Filosofia" must prepare themselves using the handouts of 10 lessons of their choice (during the exam they must present the list of the 10 lessons chosen)

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is oral and consists of an interview with questions relating to the content of the textbook and the lecture notes of module II

ASSESSMENT METHODS

In the exam, which is oral, one or more specific topics contained in the textbook and the handouts will be proposed to the student. The student will have to illustrate the topics with a critical spirit, in a correct and articulate way, using appropriate language. The student's ability to establish significant connections with other topics covered in the course will also be tested.
