OVERVIEW

Sanskrit is one of the most important Indo-European languages, which reflects the PIE culture as well the history of ancient India. Its knowledge enables us to acquire the foundations of Indo-European reconstruction.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The studente will be able to manage the sasis of Sanskrit grammar and to afford the sanskrit texts discussed in class as well Indo-European etymology and reconstruction.

The students will be able to master the foudations of Sanskrit grammar and Indo-European reconstruction.

 

PREREQUISITES

A good knowledge of Greek and Latin.Foundations of Indo-European Linguistics: phonetic laws, geealogical affiliations, morphology.

TEACHING METHODS

Traditional lesson. The student is required to join actively to the class.Texts, materials and photocopies will be provided for the most part.

The lectures will be delivered in presence. The attendance is highly recommended.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

During the course the Brahmodya hymn RV I 164 will be lecture.

The theme will focus on  deciphering Vedic riddles and Indo-European parallelisms.
