    OVERVIEW

    Italian linguistics is the scientific study of the Italian language (mainly, but not only, contemporary), its dialects and the languages of ethnolinguistic minorities.

    Italian linguistics deals with the structures of language, uses and functions of the language, with reference to the model of geographical, social, situational and communicative varieties.

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    The aim of the course is the scientific study of the Italian language, mainly but not only contemporary, in its geographical, social and situational varieties, with reference to the structures, functions and linguistic uses.

    - learning of the architecture of the varieties of contemporary Italian
    - learning of the distinctive traits of each Italian variety
    - development of the ability to analyze written and oral productions in Italian in a variational perspective

    - adapting communication to the context, improving functional literacy

    - G. B. PELLEGRINI, Carta dei dialetti d'Italia, Pisa, Pacini, 1977 [immagine a colori].

    For students who do not take the written exam in January 2023 but who will sit the oral exams from February 2023, the programme also includes reading the following volume:

    - COVERI-BENUCCI-DIADORI, Le varietà dell'italiano. Manuale di sociolinguistica italiana, Siena, Bonacci, 2005 or later editions (the volume is out of print but is available on loan from the DIRAAS Department Library, via Balbi 6, I floor).

    EXAMS

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

    Multiple choice test (January 2023). Oral examination (all the other exam sessions).

    The first exam session is a test and takes place at the end of January 2023. All subsequent exam sessions, from February to December 2023, are oral and include a supplementary bibliography.

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

    The test consists of a closed-ended questionnaire (multiple choice test) and an open question on a course topic. The test is taken on Aulaweb (If it's possible).

    FURTHER INFORMATION

    The course Italian Linguistics B is intended for students with surnames L to Z, enrolled in the 2nd year of the CdL in Modern Languages and Cultures (cl. L-11), 'Languages for Business' curriculum (n.o. 270).

    EUROPEAN MOBILITY students can take the Italian Linguistics exam only if they have "Linguistica italiana" (Italian Linguistics, Linguistique italienne, Italienische Sprachwissenschaft) in their Learning Agreement and if they stay in Italy for two semesters: the course is annual.

    Students with special educational needs, disabilities and SLDs are invited to contact the professor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory tools.

    AULAWEB: during the course, the professor will make available on the Aulaweb in-depth materials that can be downloaded by students and are useful for exam preparation; all information and notices concerning lectures will also be posted on the Aulaweb.
