The linguistic module aims at presenting the diacronic development of the Scandinavian languages in a comparative perspective. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Building on the skills acquired during the Bachelor's degree, the course aims at teaching the students how to use the Swedish language in advanced contexts. In order to to this, the course is divided into two parts: a one-semester linguistics module and a two-semester practical language module AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at provinding students with further advanced knowledge about the Swedish language and its use in various contexts, paying particular attention to textual analysis and writing techniques and dedicating a series of practical classes to the teaching of Swedish for specific purposes and in specific areas of professional interest. The course is divided into two parts: a one-semester linguistics module and a two-semester practical language module. PREREQUISITES A linguistic competence equivalent to the C1 level of the Common European Framework. TEACHING METHODS The course will be taught in presence. Multimedia materials will be available on the Aulaweb platform. The students who are not able to attend classes should contact the teachers SYLLABUS/CONTENT The theoretical module deals with the history of the Scandinavian languages: Periodization of the Scandinavian languages, Protoscandinavian, Common Scandinavian, Old Scandinavian, Icelandic, Faroese, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Similarities and differences among the Continental Scandinavian languages. The annual practical course will focus on the reading and comment of complex texts, on reading and listening exercises and on the production of both oral and written argumentative texts. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Chiara Benati, Storia delle Lingue scandinave, ECIG Genova, 2011. This will be integrated with multimedia material on the Aulaweb platform. Class schedule SWEDISH LANGUAGE II EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The practlcal course is assessed through a written exam constituted by reading, listening and the writing of an argumentative essay. A monolingual dictionary can be used during this part of the exam. Speaking skills are assessed in a oral conversation on current themes and events. The theoretical module is assessed in an oral exam - in either Italian or Swedish according to the candidate's preference - on the topics of the course. ASSESSMENT METHODS The oral exam on the linguistics module will deal with the most significant features of the phonology, morphology, syntax and vocabulary of the Scandinavian languages in their historical phases, on the periodization problems, as well as on the syncronic relationship between the Scandinavian languages. The practical exam will verify the candidate's ability to understand and produce highly complex texts both in written and in spoken form. The final mark is the arithmetic mean of the marks obtained in the three parts, each weighing 33% ot the total.
