OVERVIEW

From the margin. The text and the favela

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at a cultural-historical incursion into the universe of urban discomfort, the margin and the hegemony-subalternity relationship starting from the favela/communidade place in Brazil and develops through three discourses: the first, sociological in character; the second literary (with a history of the so-called 'literatura marginal'); the third textual (with an analysis of language and forms in some novels, poems, graphic novels and audiovisuals).

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures and seminars in italian and portuguese. Attendance is heartily recommended. Students who are unable to attend will have to study some supplementary material

Students with a certified DSA, disability  

or other special educational needs to contact the lecturer 

at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that 

while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual 

individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory tools 

 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course aims to refine cultural competences related to the Brazilian context and to deepen the reflection on the society of the Latin American country with particular attention to the urban, peripheral and discomfort (favela) discourse. In particular, the history of the literature of the margin will be a place to interpret issues of power.
