It provides for the support of courses, held by professional translators, interpreters and language assistants, native speakers of German and Italian, aimed at practical learning of the language and of interlinguistic mediation at the specialist level, and of an interpreting module in which basic techniques of dialogic interpretation are applied. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Aims and learning outcomes (theory module) • Develop metalinguistic reflection on translation issues, with particular attention to the translation of the diamesic and diaphasic variation and taking into account the features of the “language of immediacy” and “language of distance” as described in the model developed by Koch & Oesterreicher. • The use of glossaries and terminology databases, monolingual and multilingual reference works, corpora, and online dictionaries are intended to build and expand metalinguistic skills. At the end of the course, the students • have in-depth knowledge of both the diamesic and diaphasic variation in German and of the model developed by Koch & Oesterreicher; • have the ability to apply the acquired to the translation of marked oral, written and multimedia texts; • are able to present, comment, and evaluate in German their own translation activity; • have developed skills in the use of language databases, mono- and multilingual reference works, terminology databases, and online dictionaries. Aims and learning outcomes (language learning courses) The courses aim to enable students to reach level C1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) The aim of the courses (language learning courses‘) is to reflect critically on one's translation practice and to develop skills • in the textual and traductological analysis of economic and legal texts • in translating economic and legal texts from Italian into German and from German into Italian • in conference interpreting and simultaneous interpreting • in terminology theory and in the writing of terminology entries in German After successfully completing the language learning courses the students have active and passive language skills in the German language at level C1.2 of the CEFR. Course attendance is not mandatory, but recommended. PREREQUISITES Students must demonstrate a C1 level of language proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) TEACHING METHODS The course ("theory module") will combine various modes, mainly frontal lecturing, flipped classroom, and blended learning; PPT presentations and multimedia will be used. During the course (theoretical 'module') various exercises will be assigned with the aim of gradually checking the knowledge acquired. The "theory module" (30 h, 1st semester) is accompanied by year-round language learningand interpreting courses. • Theory module: 30 h (1st semester) (Prof. Dr. Simona Leonardi). • Interpreting 1st year 40 h (20 h 1st semester + 20 h 2nd semester) (prof. Elisa Lanata; prof. Danilo Monteverde) • Technical translation Italian-German and German-Italian: Business language (20 h 1. semester + 20 h 2. semester (prof. Christina Cramer) • Technical translation it.-dt. and dt.-it: Legal terminology (20 h WS + 20 h SS (prof. Lucia Udvari); introduction to the concepts of 'diamesic variation' and 'diaphasic variation', 'written language' and 'spoken language', ‘literacy‘ and 'orality', 'language of immediacy and 'language of distance' (model developed by Koch & Oesterreicher). The reflections on the linguistic and textual features linked to the parameters 'language of immediacy' and 'language of distance' as well as their translatability will be integrated with examples from various text types. The final examination will consist of a written examination + oral commentary on the PPT presentation. During the written examination of the theoretical 'module', knowledge of the course content will be tested. The final assessment will take into account a) the PPT presentation (previously sent to the lecturer); b) the adequacy of the bibliography accompanying the presentation; c) the knowledge of the course contents (written examination/presentazion); d) familiarity with the the readings discussed during the course and with the materials made available on the Aulaweb platform. The languages learning courses will be completed by written examinations and an oral examination. Credit Points: The entire course (theory class + translation and interpreting) is credited with 12 credit points (CP / ECTS). Language: Lessons will be held in German.
