AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The student will learn the fundamentals of road-vehicles aerodynamics based on bluff bodies aerodynamics. The effects of the vehicle design and shape on the aerodynamic performance and loads will be discussed. The importance of the aerodynamic analysis for the vehicle dynamics and for the vehicle handling will be stressed.

Knowledge on the aerodynamic issues related to the road vehicle design and development

Knowledge on the aerodynamic effects that are involved into the dynamic analysis of the vehicle

Seminars and practical applications on CFD for vehicle aerodynamics

Main topcis:

  • introduction to bluff bodies aerodynamics;
  • introduction to numerical techniques for external aerodynamics;
  • introduction to wind tunnel testing;
  • car aerodynamics - influence of main design parameters on aerodynamic performance;
  • ventilation and cooling flows effect on road vehicle aerodynamic performance;
  • commercial vehicle aerodynamics;
  • aerodynamic effects on train design;
  • race cars aerodymamics;
