OVERVIEW

The course provides an overview of the main methods for planning logistic netwoorks and transportation systems.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student will be able:
- to know the main decision problems related to the planning and management of logistic and transportation systems
- to know the methodologies for the planning and management of logistic and transportation systems
- use some software tools for modelling, analysing and planning logistic and transportation systems

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • to state and formalize decision problems associated with transportation and logistic systems

  • to identify the most appropriate methodology for optimization and analysis of transportation and logistic systems

  • to analyze the results of the planning problems and its impacts

PREREQUISITES

The prerequisites are related to the courses of Operations Research and Systems Theory

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons and team working activities with specific software

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

  • Introduction to transportation and logistics systems
  • Location of logistics nodes (quantitative methods, stochastic models, location of public services)
  • Service network design (service networks on multigraph, vehicle allocation, driver assignment, vehicle routing problems)

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is given by the evaluation of a project work developed by the student and an oral exam with open-ended questions on the topics addressed in the course

ASSESSMENT METHODS

During the exam the professor will evaluate the capabilities of the student in adopting suitable methods for the analysis and planning of transportation and logistic systems. Specifically, the ability will be assessed primarily:

  • the ability to decide which decision problem is most appropriate in the face of a logistic decision that has to be made;
  • the ability to correctly formalize a decision problem;
  • the ability to modify a decision problem.

The following ability will also be assessed:

  • clarity, organization, exposition of the written eborate
  • ability to process and analyze the results obtained in the written eborate
  • implementation of decision problems with software used in the classroom
  • clarity, correctness, exposition during the oral interview
