    OVERVIEW

    The training is based on a general feasibility analysis that allows to define, through different phases, the elements useful for the design, construction and operation of the system. The course aims to provide mechanical engineering students with the conceptual aspects to study, design and manage these systems through a systemic approach, techniques and methodologies widely used in the industrial field.

     

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Creating the basis for addressing design and economic-managerial aspects over the entire life cycle of a plant. The training is based on a general feasibility analysis and provides through various phases, the elements useful for the management and construction of the system. Industrial competitiveness and sustainability trends will be discussed in the first part. The second part of the course is focused on a preliminary feasibility analysis that allows to define, through different phases and steps, basic elements useful for the design, construction and operation of production systems. The third part provides practical approaches to operate and manage production systems and related logistics using ICT.

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

    Developing the foundations for a plant engineer capable of integrating design and economic-managerial aspects along the entire life cycle of a plant. The course aims to provide mechanical engineering students with the conceptual aspects to analyze, design and manage these production systems through a systemic approach, simple techniques and methodologies widely used in the industrial context. Provide a general picture of industrial competitiveness and current trends towards sustainability. Acquire and develop methods and tools for preliminary feasibility analysis that allows to define, through different phases and steps, basic elements useful for the design, construction and operation of production systems. It provides the foundations of modern factory information systems to operate and manage production systems and related logistics. Acquire conceptual resolution skills for the planning and scheduling systems of stock materials and the optimal location of the plant.

    PREREQUISITES

    Fundamental exams of Mechanical Engineering of the First Level Degree.

    TEACHING METHODS

    Lessons on powerpoint presentations in Italian/English language. Course book.

    The topics will be developed approximately over 12 weeks of frontal lessons divided into two days of lessons per week, dividing each week the topics between the reference teacher and the external teacher from industry.

    Some seminars will be organized.

    Attendance is manadatory.

    Some simple exercises will be carried out.

    Media such as web videos will be used.

    The lessons will be held with the support of power point presentations and held in Italian. Some didactic material may be in English.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    Production plants and systems. The role of industry and manufacturing at a national level, insights into industrial policies and competitiveness. Classification of industrial plants and production systems. The feasibility study: market analysis, product study, production process study, process flow analysis, layout study, services study, economic study of the initiative. Towards the Smart Factory and the new advanced manufacturing models.

    In particular, the following topics will be explored:

    Tonelli - 1 day a week

    Strategy and competitiveness (3 hours)
    Industrial competitiveness and sustainability: lean manufacturing (3 hours)
    Location study of an industrial plant (3 hours)
    Stock management (6 hours)
    Feasibility study (9 hours)
    Break-even point analysis and investment analysis (6 hours)

    EXAMS

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

    Written exam with 2 questions of a design nature and 1 of a general nature.

    Optional oral exam if the written grade is greater than or equal to 18/30.

    The test will be on all the topics presented and discussed in class.

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

    The written exam will allow to verify the general knowledge and in the answer the quality of the exposition, the correct use of the specialized vocabulary, the ability of critical reasoning will be evaluated. The exercise part is aimed at verifying the student's analytical ability to resolve.

    The test will last 1 hour.

    Any alternative methods due to COVID restrictions will be evaluated during the semester.
