The course focuses on the main laws associated with mechanics and electromagnetism in vacuum. Specific attention is given to the discussion of each law applicability and limitations and to the adoption of models and schematic descriptions to deal with real-world problems.
This course introduces the main laws of classical mechanics of point-like bodies, ensambles of point-like bodies, and rigid bodies. At the end of the course, students should be capable of developing models to solve simple problems, also thanks to the instruments learned in the calculus and geometry courses.
The course consists of 60 frontal lessons. Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended. Practice sessions are also scheduled, at times other than lessons.
As part of the innovation learning project adopted by the Bachelor Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering, novel tools will be used for the active learning of students. The goal is to increase students' skills via interactive, experience-based, learning methodologies (e-learning, teamwork, etc.) for enhanced student participation, using an advanced level of communication that makes the student more aware and autonomous.
Mechanics: motion of point-like bodies, systems of point-like bodies, and rigid bodies.
The course topics are covered by any university level General Physics text.
Office hours: by appointment
