|SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR||ICAR/03|
The aim of the course is to give a general overview about climate change and Greenhouse gases emissions (GHG). The application of the Kyoto Protocol mechanisms the Paris Agreement and the EU Emission Trading System (2003/87/CE) will be discussed. Calculation and monitoring methodologies of the greenhouse gases for production plants under the Eu-ETS directive application will be analysed. Moreover general strategies of mitigation and adaptation will be introduced, using exercises and specific case studies
The course provides competence about climate change and Greenhouse gases emissions (GHG), through the application of the Kyoto Protocol and the EU Emission Trading System.
The objectives of the course are aimed at acquiring specific skills in the climate change related topics. The course is mainly aimed at transferring basic knowledge and skills about the climate change mechanism, the strategies of mitigation and of greenhouse gases emissions reduction, the measures of adaptation that can be implemented to protect the population and the environment.
No particular prerequisites are requested
The course lasts 50 hours (5 CFU) of:
- frontal lessons
- analysis of case studies
- exercises and use of softwares
A broad treatment of the aspects related to climate change is proposed and the following topics will be discussed:
- climate change mechanism,
- previsional climate models,
- expected impacts on population and environment,
- application of the EU-ETS Directive,
- greenhouse gases emissions inventories and application of reduction measures,
- strategies of mitigation and use of low greenhouse gases emissions technologies,

- Kyoto Protocol
Office hours: By appointment
All class schedules are posted on the EasyAcademy portal.
During the winter session there will be three exam sessions (December, January and February) and three exam sessions during the summer session and during the autumn stage of the Polytechnic School. Outside the normal periods of the Polytechnic School, no further exam sessions will be held, with the exception of students without teaching activities in their current academic year curriculum.
The exam will consist in the elaboration and presentation of a synthetic calculation of greenhouse gas emissions made by the student on one of the topics discussed in class and in an oral exam related to the contents discussed in the course.
Working students and students with SLD, disability or other special educational needs certification are advised to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that, in compliance with the teaching objectives, take into account of individual learning methods
