Human movement and gestures in sports are generally optimized to obtain a high performance. Athletes adopt particular strategies to obtain resistance, force, precision or power. Sports biomechanics studies gesture and movement execution both by measurements and modelling to describe it and to determine its crucial characteristics. This approach is of interest in general biomechanics also, and it can be exported in different fields.
AIMS AND CONTENT
Knowledge of experimental methods and analytical and numerical techniques for the study of human movement with particular reference to sports activities. Ability to analyze simple motor gestures by integrating models and measurements. Ergonomics elements.
AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
Student will familiarize with systems and methods for measurement of human movement and of associated forces, in sports. She/he will be able to use dynamic simulation environments applied to biomechanics. She/he will understand the integration of measurement data and biomechanical models for a quantitative study of sports activities.

The final examination is based on:
- The discussion of a technical document realized by small groups of students (3-4) regarding the study of a sport gesture. Students can submit a standard document or they can present the activity by a slide show. A discussion is possible on specific aspects of the work.
- An open question regarding the methodological aspects considered in the course, during standard lectures or lab sessions.
Evaluation will consider the ability to synthesize information in order to apply methods to a specific test case. Beside that, ability to think critically will be evaluated considering the discussion of obtained results and possible future developments.
The open question aims to evaluate methods comprehension. A proper engineering / biomechanical language and terminology is required
