CODE 108667 ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 1 INGEGNERIA MECCANICA - PROGETTAZIONE E PRODUZIONE 9269 (LM-33) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/15 TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 2° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW Advanced Technical Drawings and Mechanical Design through the integrated use of the most advanced Virtual Prototyping tools, in particular Computer Aided Design/Engineering (CAD/CAE) tools for solid parametric modelling and for the concurrent optimization of mechanical systems. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES To provide, by means of theoretical concepts and project-based learning, the knowledge of modern CAD/CAE (Computer-Aided Design/Engineering) modelling techniques aimed at developing a Digital Mock-UP (DMU) of complex products. The course shall deal with an in-depth analysis of real-world assemblies, taken from the industrial scenario. Traditional computer-aided drawing tools will be recalled (parametric CAD), followed by an in-depth description of advanced virtual prototyping methods (CAE-centered desing and 3D modelling via top-down approach). AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES - Knowledge of a methodological design approaches for setting-up the sequential activities to be carried out in order to optimally perform the design of a generic mechanical system; - Knowledge of some CAD/CAE software tools for mechanical drawing, in particular PTC Creo and OnShape; - Ability to set up a coordinated and concurrent CAD/CAE-based design activity on a group of people (collaborative design); TEACHING METHODS The course is structured into equally subdivided theoretical and practical lectures. SYLLABUS/CONTENT - Product lifecycle and phases of product development; - Review of mechanical drawing, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and related software tools - Computer-Aided Tolerancing (CAT); - Optimization of chains of tolerances according to the production technology of the single components; - CAD-CAE integration, CAE-centerd design and development of 3D models with top-down approach (Use of part skeleton and assembly); - Morphological optimization of mechanical components according to the maximum achievable precision; - Optimization of mechanical systems oriented towards ease-of-assembly and minimum cost of construction (Design-for-Assembly & Design-to-Cost); - Information management in the product life cycle, PLM systems; - Methods and tools for collaborative design (collaborative PLM - Cloud-based CAD). TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD GIOVANNI BERSELLI Ricevimento: Office hours:The lecturer is available for the students at the end of each lesson. Meetings can be scheduled via MS Teams, at DIME Sezione Mec - Via all’Opera Pia 15/A or at the Polo didattica – La Spezia. In addition, it is always possible to request for a meeting via email. For appointments, please send an email to: giovanni.berselli@unige.it Exam Board GIOVANNI BERSELLI (President) LESSONS LESSONS START https://corsi.unige.it/9269/p/studenti-orario Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS ASSESSMENT METHODS The written exam aims at verifying that the student is able to carry out the general design of a mechanical assembly (having similar complexity as the systems illustrated during the lectures). A CAD/CAE project is also required. The design of a mechanical assembly, to be implemented with the CAD/CAE methodologies explained in class, is assigned to each student. The oral evaluation consists of a detailed presentation/discussion of the project. The student shall submit a written report (30/40 pages) at least 10 days before the day of the exam, summarizing: - the project phases; - the difficulties encountered while carrying out the work; - methods and techniques employed to overcome such challenges; Along with the report, the student is required to deliver a DVD with all the final project files. These files shall be produced with PTC Creo.
