CODE 98809 ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 3 INFORMATICA 8759 (L-31) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR INF/01 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The course is aimed at: Students who intend to enroll in the MSc in Computer Science, with the aim of providing a "warm up" for the courses of the Health and Life Sciences and Visual Computing tracks. Students who do not intend to continue their studies, with the aim of introducing the basic information for the processing of signals and images through the application of the Discrete Fourier Transformation. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide tools for processing signals (typically sounds) and images through the Fourier Transform. In particular, the sampling in time and space will be treated, the Fourier representation and some of its applications such as noise filtering or the improvement of blurred or blurred images. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course the student will have acquired the tools to process the signals and the images through the analysis of the frequency spectrum. In particular, he/she will be able to: - Improve signals and images by increasing the signal-to-noise ratio or eliminating overlapping noise - Restore images that are blurry or blurred - Identify characteristics in signals or images - Play sounds in a synthetic way SYLLABUS/CONTENT Discrete Fourier Transformation Representation and processing of signals through DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) and FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) Representation and processing of images through DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) and FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) Sampling Noise treatment Filters and applications TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD FRANCESCA ODONE Ricevimento: Appointment by email: francesca.odone@unige.it (always specify name and surname, course name, degree name) Exam Board FRANCESCA ODONE (President) NICOLETTA NOCETI MATTEO MORO (Substitute) EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The exam consists in carrying out a project on a topic chosen by the student, agreed with the teacher. The results of the project must be summarized in a written report (in Italian or English chosen by the student) and presented during the oral examination with the support of a presentation. ASSESSMENT METHODS The student must demonstrate through software development, to have understood the theoretical and practical aspects of the Fourier analysis of the signals or images. Furthermore, the drafting of the project report will aim to evaluate the student's expression and synthesis skills.
