The course will increase the student’s knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of the most common diseases that require First Aid treatment in emergency situations.
Guidelines to help the student understand how to properly diagnose and treat various diseases will be provided, with a course emphasis on learning the most basic concepts of evidence-based medicine.
Students will learn to recognize and provide emergency First Aid treatment for 1) cardiac; 2) hemodynamic; 3) respiratory; 4) abdominal; 5) neurological; 6) orthopedic; 7) psychiatric; 8) traumatic vascular; 9) hemorrhagic; 10) allergic; 11) infectious; and, 12) exposure to toxic environmental and/or physical agents .
they will be able to manage the initial stages until possible hospitalization and acquire manual skills and immediate rescue techniques and knowledge of the use of drugs of interest in the emergency area.
a good knowledge of surgical anatomy, phisiopathology and pathology of the most common diseases that can acutely harm vital functions of human body is required as well as of clinical pharmacology.
It is mandatory to have the basic concepts of evidence-based medicine and a good knowledge of statistics applied to medicine.

A written exam that includes all the subjects teached is held for the entire course. The test consists on 31 multiple choice questions on topics of basic knowledge, diagnosis and therapy in the field of Emergencies. one point for each positive correct answet, zero point for each unresponded or incorrect answer wil be given; eighteen correct answers is considered the minimum result to pass the exam. The questions are prepared in order to evaluate the acquired knowledge and the logic skills of the student.

moreover, during the laboratory instructor veify that each student is able to perform the foundamental procedure of BLS.
