CODE 58955 ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 2 SCIENZE DELL'EDUCAZIONE E DELLA FORMAZIONE 10841 (L-19) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MED/42 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The main objectives of the course are: to acquire knowledge of the causes, epidemiological trends and prevention of the principal infectious and degenerative diseases and their health, social and economic impacts. During the course, students will be provided with the elements needed in order to understand how the Italian health system is organized; particular emphasis will be placed on health promotion, health education and preventive strategies. Students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) and/or disability are recommended to contact the professor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and exam methods which, according to the course’s objectives, take into account the modalities individual learning and provide suitable compensatory tools. Students unable to attend frontal lessons for reasons within the teaching regulations must contact the teacher before the start of the lessons to agree on the additional program. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, the student must have acquired the knowledge necessary for the prevention of degenerative and infectious diseases and for health promotion. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, students must: possess the main notions of health promotion and disease prevention, with regard to both infectious diseases and chronic-degenerative diseases; demonstrate that they understand that prevention is essential in order to protect the health of the individual and the community; know the main issues covered by the National Prevention Plan; be able to design health education projects aimed at different population targets. PREREQUISITES No TEACHING METHODS Frontal lessons and group activities to develop the subjects dealt with during the class lessons. In case of health emergencies, lessons will take place in accordance with the University regulations. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Health definition and health factors. Health Promotion. From health education to education for health. Epidemiology: epidemiological measurements and types of epidemiological studies. Primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases. Epidemiology and prevention of degenerative diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases and cancers. National Prevention Plan and National Immunization Plan. Notions of first aid. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Study material will be provided by the teacher and published on aulaweb. Class schedule HYGIENICS EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION Obligatory written examination consisting of 30 “closed-answer” questions with only one correct answer (one point for each correct answer) and of one “open” question. The open question will evaluate the student's level of detailed knowledge and use of appropriate language. The “open” question will be evaluated in a range between 0 (insufficient) and 3 (excellent). Oral examination on request by the student, in order to improve the score obtained in the written examination. Students unable to attend frontal lessons will have to prepare a health education project to be submitted 5 days before the exam. See guidelines published on aulaweb. ASSESSMENT METHODS The written format has been adopted in order to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the entire course is assessed in an objective manner. This modality is deemed to be able to correctly evaluate the achievement of both the general and specific training objectives. In the oral examination, the student's level of knowledge, quality of exposition and ability to use appropriate vocabulary will be assessed.
