AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The module aims to provide students with a basic understanding of the mechanisms of national and regional economic systems. The training will be integrated with other modules in the students’ curriculum, providing the basic skills required to critically evaluate information on macroeconomic facts at a local and global level.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide the fundamental ideas behind economics. After an introduction to the most important recurring concepts of economic science, particular attention will be paid to the tools of supply and demand, the concept of surplus and the concept of allocative efficiency. The behaviour of firms will then be discussed, with particular reference to production costs and different market forms. Finally, the course will aim to provide the tools to understand the meaning of the main macroeconomic variables. At the end of the course the student will have acquired an effective ability to understand the main micro and macro economic concepts, will be able to master the typical language of economic science, will have developed adequate learning skills to deepen autonomously the knowledge learnt, and will be able to reflect on current news with greater awareness.
