OVERVIEW

The workshop focuses on effective writing in English in the corporate context. It will help students learn how to write a business letter, a business report or proposal and a chart description. Students will improve their business vocabulary and use of grammar by studying and writing these types of documents during the lessons. They will also develop their skills in critical reading by presenting and commenting on articles about communication, leadership and soft skills

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at providing a basic knowledge of English writing and reading, by bringing students' competence to an "upper-intermediate" level. Particularly, it will focus on the language of Anglophone medias, stimulating a critical approach in reading.

The English Laboratory will help the students learn how to write several types of business letters and emails, business reports, business proposals and a chart description.

Combination of traditional lectures and practical activities carried out in groups

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course will focus on the most common business correspondence (enquiries and replies, offers and replies, orders and replies, complaints and replies), business reports, business proposals and a chart description with a further focus on structure, style (more formal / less formal) grammar vocabulary and content. During the course there will be presentations made in groups about articles related to communication skills and leadership skills. This way, the students will develop their English competence at an upper intermediate level and their team-work skills.

For non-attendees: a 1500-word essay about one's own experience of adaptive leadership based on the guidelines made available to the students on aulaweb.

For attendees: letters and reports written in groups and presentations to be done in groups during the last two lessons of the course. Presentations will be about articles or texts related to communication and leadership skills in the corporate world
