AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquire the knowledge necessary for the distinction between qualitative and quantitative research in the field of health professions. Apply this knowledge in scientific reasoning to use the most suitable methods to study the two types of research. Evaluate the quantity and quality of the methods used in the main diagnostic techniques applicable in the health professions.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lesson in presence or online, and available on AulaWeb, according to University’s anti-COVID instructions.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Notes on the main statistical tests and algorithms (including machine learning) used to validate the hypotheses formulated through the use of qualitative and quantitative research. How to create a clear and complete graphic representation of the results obtained, and in particular of the tools capable of simultaneously displaying several variables with two and/or three-dimensional diagrams (Volcano plot, Heatmap, Correlogram, and scatter plot).

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam will consist of a written test (multiple choice quiz) performed in person or on a digital platform, according to University’s anti-COVID instructions.

The test is passed with at least 18/30.

The final grade will be averaged (weighted average) with the other modules of the integrated course.

ATTENTION: If the minimum objectives of the course are not achieved, the student will not pass the exam.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will verify the achievement of the training objectives; in particular, the student's knowledge of the distinction between qualitative and quantitative research, of the methods used and how to analyze the results obtained will be ascertained.
