OVERVIEW

Clinical Neuropsychology studies cognitive functions and their alterations. This subject is particularly important for the speech therapist, who often has to take care of patients with speech pathologies as well as disorders of cognitive functions. The teaching of clinical neuropsychology is divided into two modules: in the first the functions and their disorders are systematically presented; the second is dedicated to an in-depth study with a more practical approach.

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching of Neuropsychology 2 aims to deepen the knowledge of the cognitive functions that the student has acquired in the teaching of Neuropsychology 1, especially through an applicative approach aimed at studying the neuropsychological aspects of some important diseases of the central nervous system. In this context, the main teaching themes are represented by "major brain syndromes" (also as a paradigm of the integration between "basic" and cognitive neurological functions) and the various types of dementia. This will allow to further develop the theoretical and practical bases of neuropsychological assessment of the various forms of functional and organic disorders of the subjects with whom they will have to interact.

TEACHING METHODS

Lessons take place in the first semester of the third year through lectures that make use of slide projections.

Students with SLD, disability or other special educational needs certification are strongly encouraged to contact the teachers at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching methods which, respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory instruments.
