The spread of new media has led Italian to adapt to new communicative needs such as the need to communicate quickly, effectively and incisively. The richness and stratification of Italian and its varieties interact with the different registers of digital writing (e-mail, blogs, websites, etc.). Those who write today for the new media must possess awareness and skills in the analysis and production of digital texts for the different communication purposes.
The aim of the course is to provide students with the following skills: - awareness of the sociolinguistic variability of the language - knowledge of diamesic varieties, in particular of digital Italian - familiarity with the main online lexicographic resources - development of skills for reading and analysing texts written for the new media - acquisition of techniques for the production of texts written for the new media.

The examination includes an oral test on the course content and a practical exercise in the production of a text for new media
The assessment methods involve two phases:
1) production of a written text for the new media on the basis of specific assignments (e.g. drafting an e-mail for a specific recipient and with a specific content; drafting a QOL article; drafting texts for blogs etc.); the written test will assess the mastery of techniques for the production of written texts for new media.
2) interview on the course content (the varieties of Italian, registers, text types, characteristics of digital writing, etc.) and the examination texts. The interview will test the student's ability to recognise varieties of Italian, to use specialised vocabulary and to orientate himself/herself confidently in the course content.
