AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is aimed to deliver an introduction at the methods and problems of Mechanics of Solids and Structures, focused on the study of the mechanical behavior of materials. The course delivers the instruments to study the behavior of elastic solids and beams. The student must show his comprehension of the basic concepts introduced in the course, and, by solving specific examples of mechanics engineering, he has to show his knowledge on the topics of the course.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to introduce fundamentals of the mechanics of solids and one-dimensional structures (beams and beams in the plane) aimed at the design of mechanical elements.  At the end of the course the student will have to know and apply the models of deformable body and elastic beam in the plane, solve isostatic flat beams and simple systems using the fundamental Saint Venant's solutions, analyze the response to the actions of the loads and discuss the solutions obtained in term of the geometric and physical parameters.

TEACHING METHODS

The course is organized in lessons and exercises carried out in the classroom. The notes of the lessons and exercises carried out are available on aulaweb. During the semester the student is offered examples of application of the theoretical models introduced to develop critical and problem solving skills that will then be verify in a written test. Indications on the oral exam with typical questions aimed at verifying personal preparation are proposed to the student in order to be able to analyze and discuss the basics of the mechanical theories proposed in order to apply them with a good critical ability.
